This Saturday morning, August 6, 2016, was a special morning. We had all worked hard for this day and it was finally here. It was the Back to School Bash.
For the past two weeks, Junkgirl Cares has been soliciting donations for their first annual back to school bash. The donations came rolling in and the dozen volunteers sorted, and repack the donations getting them ready for transport.
On this Saturday morning we had a dozen volunteers meet the Junkgirl Cares truck to help unload and set up for this magnificent event. The goal was to have enough backpacks so no child that showed up would be going to school without the proper supplies.
We handed out 100 backpacks with many supplies. Everything from tissues to pencils & pens, erasers, paper, notebooks, crayons, and glue just to name a few. The expression on some of the children’s faces was worth all the hard work that we volunteers offered.
Junkgirl Cares is a local St. Louis Not For profit organization whose main vision is to serve the homeless and those that need assistance the most. We turn nobody away as our philosophy is love the unloved.
Junkgirl Cares was founded and ran by executive director Christina Ramirez. She and her remaining board of directors are putting together their application for their 501(c).
Junkgirl Cares does accept donations. We mainly look for hygiene and snack items to serve to the homeless. You can check us out and keep current with our progress by checking out our FaceBook page at https://goo.gl/NdJO1v.
Junkgirl Cares meets at Loretta Hall Park every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. There are several other organizations that offer other services as well as a pastor who speaks God’s word and various churches offer to feed the attendees each week.
